The committee for standardization of GSM, the GSM-Association (GSM-A), has developed a consistent standard for mobile terminal batteries. This standard allows comparison of current consumption and resulting stand-by and operation times for different mobile devices using the various standards (GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSxPA), applications, and services. As a result, direct comparability of measurements of mobile terminals is guaranteed, increasing end-user confidence in product features.
