EMCEA - Electromagnetic Compatibility and Environmental Aspects
The current electromagnetic pollution controversy ('Elektrosmog', a German term) about the base stations deployment of cellular radio systems has been revived by the setup of the new UMTS/WCDMA networks and the capacity extensions of the existing GSM networks.A vividly public discussion – especially in Europe, but not alone - about possible health risks posed by the radiation these stations emit is going on. Residents, house owners and/or local authorities and network operators are directly affected and thus are integrated into the decision-finding process for new locations of cellular base stations.

At IMST, we have been working as independent emission-measuring experts accepted by all parties – Citizens, Initiatives, Federal Authorities, Network Operators – since many years. Numerous measurements ( equipment) and field trials, some even requested by courts, have been conducted and have contributed considerably to an objectification of the public discussion ( references, research und publications). |
