Radio Air-Interfaces – Radiated Transmit-Power & Receiver-Sensitivity with/without User/Environment Impact

At IMSTs accredited test center facilities efficient measurement setups for the characterization of full 3D radiation patterns from wireless communications devices have been established. These measurement services for terminal devices and end-user equipment will be conducted according to international standards (e.g. CTIA, Cordless Telephony Industry Association). Mobile terminals to be tested can be either cellular or cordless phones (GSM, UMTS, AMPS, PCS, TDMA, CDMA, DECT/WDCT, ...), PDAs/MDAs, etc. but also Laptops/Notebooks with cellular, Bluetooth, or WLAN access cards. In a more general sense, the test setup can also be applied to other radio systems such as wireless data transmission units in the ISM-bands (industrial/scientific/medical, 315/433/868/915/2450 MHz), e.g. for remote metering appliances, etc. especially for the optimization of antennas and communication ranges. Thus, the measurement results are of large importance to terminal developers and manufacturers, network/service operators as well as antenna designers.

Parameters to be obtained by the offered service:
  • Equivalent Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) and Total Radiated Power (TRP)
  • Equivalent Isotropic Sensitivity (EIS) and Total Isotropic Sensitivity (TIS), typically measured at a constant BER, e.g. at 2.4 % (other conditions are possible too)
  • Full 2D/3D radiation patterns of antennas in realistic environments
  • Antenna efficiency (AE) parameters

Especially for cellular handset suppliers, network operators or test magazines we offer standardized services during either the development and/or the manufacturing (Monitoring/Screening) cycles of a product:
  • Examination of 3D radiation patterns from radio air-interfaces of cellular phones (as well as other end-user equipment) with or without user impact;
    Generic head phantom V3.5 and anthropomorphic head model according to IEEE SCC34 SAM V4.5 (SPEAG, CH), telephone positions according to EN 50361 and others.

For the optimization of antennas and wireless communication distances, e.g. in the ISM-bands, we offer:

  • 3D radiation of radio air-interfaces of wireless radio devices with/without the environmental impacts according to customer-defined/tailored specifications;

The measurements with or without head model (e.g. for cellular devices) or at typical environments (other wireless radio devices, e.g. at the ISM bands) enables antenna and system designers to gain important knowledge about the impact of typical surroundings at the intended use situation. E.g. the examination of losses from absorptions (head) or reflections (housings, packages, cases) allow for an advanced solution for your products and thus will give you decisive advantages.
