The major advantages of circuits based on ceramics are their resistance against aggressive environmental conditions such as thermal, chemical, and mechanical stress. Furthermore, the circuit performance under high frequency conditions is superior compared to other organic based materials. Typical applications examples for thin and thick film ceramics are motor management circuits, sensor circuits, radar circuits, etc. At microwave or millimetre wave frequencies thin film ceramics are often the only choice to obtain low-loss, high-quality, high-performance, and high-reliability at the same time.
IMST as a service provider to the industry offers a wide range of prototyping and manufacturing services for the production of ceramic circuits also at small volumes. We are able to supply customers either with prototypes as well as small volumes utilizing several ceramic technologies such as LTCC (low temperature co-fired ceramics), thin & thick film based circuits. Our ISO 9001:2000 certified clean-room facility has manufacturing capabilities such as:
- Thin Film Circuits (w/o resistance sheet):
Well suited for low-loss microwave and millimetre wave circuits (up to 100 GHz) or for high-quality, high-reliability carriers at high environmental stress levels.
- Thick Film Circuits (Screen Printing):
Suited for low-cost RF circuits with lower demands on conductor resolutions and thus for the lower frequencies (up to some tens of GHz).

- Multi-layered Ceramics (LTCC)
Suitable for solving combined electric/electronic, mechanical, thermal, and fluidic problems as well as for the higher frequencies (up to several 10 GHz) and for higher densities such as 3D-integration.
Furthermore, we are also working on other types of substrate materials such as ceramic-filled substrates, soft substrates, etc. PTFE and duroids may be named as examples, e.g. for the use as antenna substrates.
