Tests on Acoustics

GSM/UMTS - Cellular Phones

Measurements are conducted in a chamber with low acoustic reflections utilizing the test system CAS and the head phantom „Artificial Head HMS.2“ from Head Acoustics. Differently from the GSM 11.10.30.x recommendations, measurements are not directly from the DAI (digital audio interface) but including the DUT-implemented voice-CODEC. This has the advantage that the total product solution, which means acoustic + voice-signal processing, can be assessed.

Service Offer Specification:

  • Device Types: GSM 900/1800, UMTS
  • Measurements at one channel, mid-of band
  • Measurements according to GSM Rec. 11.10.30.1-5.1, 7, 10, differently from the standard, measurements are taken from the voice-CODEC and not from the DAI:
    • Sending/Receiving Sensitivity / Frequency Response, Sending/Receiving Loudness Rating (SLR/RLR), Side Tone Masking Rating (STMR), Echo Loss Male/Female Voice (EL), Distortion Sending/Receiving, Idle Channel Noise Sending/Receiving

Car-Kit and Hands-Free

Similar to cellular phones, see above, but additionally assessment of the interphone-voice quality, noise suppression, echo compensation, etc

Service Offer Specification

  • Device Types: Car Kits and Hands-Frees for GSM 900/1800, UMTS
  • Measurements at one channel, mid-of band
  • Measurements according to GSM Rec. 11.10.30.1-5.1, 7, 10, differently from the standard, measurements are taken from the voice-CODEC and not from the DAI:
    • Sending/Receiving Sensitivity / Frequency Response, Sending/Receiving Loudness Rating (SLR/RLR) according to ITU-T, Rec. P.79
    • Simulated interphone-speaking with the CS-signal in transmit and receive mode
    • Signal bias in transmit and receive mode (315 – 1600/2800 Hz)
    • Signal and switch time delays in transmit and receive mode
    • Signal duration until reach of steady-state echo-loss state in receive mode (convergence)

Headsets

Similar to GSM acoustic measurements, see above, anatomical correct ear-model according to ITU-T P.57 Type 3.3, additionally, at Bluetooth headsets assessment of operational/standby current consumptions:
