Diakoptic analysis of large electromagnetic systems

An efficient general method for the numerical analysis of large electromagnetic-field problems has been under development, which is based on merging a domain-partitioning approach and surface integral-equation formulations. The technique is based on the equivalence theorems. The analyzed system is divided into simpler non-overlapping subsystems. Equivalent surface sources are placed on subsystem boundaries. Each subsystem is analyzed independently, yielding linear relations between the equivalent sources on its boundaries. The solutions for the individual subsystems are combined to obtain the final solution. The approach has been successfully tailored and applied to 2-D and 3-D electrostatic problems, as well as 2-D dynamic problems. The ultimate goal is the application to 3-D dynamic problems, which will lead to incorporation into general computer codes for 3-D simulation of electromagnetic fields.
