Shorted Annular Patch Antennas
Giandomenico Amendola
In this presentation the work done at the University of Calabria Microwave Laboratory on Shorted Annular Patch (SAP) antennas will be reviewed. As it is known SAP antennas can be designed to inhibit surface wave emissions thus allowing for limited lateral radiation. As a result reduced mutual coupling, higher efficiency and smoother radiationa patterns can be achieved. Research studies on circular SAP ,originally carried out at the University of Houston, have been extended to Shorted Elliptical Patch
(SAEP) antennas to provide dual band and circularly polarized solutions. In the presentation, theory and design examples will be presented with particular reference to low multipath SAP antennas designed for high performance GNSS applications.
